Christmas Daze….

Friday 26
December 2008
It’s the evening after Christmas day…..have been in a post-Christmas
funk all day. Tired. Did very little. I’m not one of those people
who can rip down all the decorations the day after. Had a great
debate with myself on whether to leave things up til after New
Year’s Eve, like I do every year. Common sense has won out and I’ve
gotten all the boxes out to start tearing down tomorrow. I prefer to
start the year out fresh. Husband is gone hunting and should be home
tomorrow evening so won’t have his sad face to contend with. He
always makes me feel so guilty. He does like his Christmas!
It was a good holiday all in all. Christmas Eve was nice at the
in-laws and had my family over on Christmas day. Have one more
Christmas at the in-laws Sunday evening. Santa was good to everyone
this year, I think. I was happy. And I even have a little money left
in my Christmas account for next year! Can’t complain.
Now, I just have a few New Years resolutions to come up with. I
don’t like to break too many!
I’ll be sure to share some of them with you all when I’ve decided.
In the meantime, I have a bed and a good book calling me. If you
look out toward my house tomorrow and see a big dust cloud don’t
worry! You’ll know I’m taking down the decorations I’ve had up for
nearly 2 months now. Talk at ya later! Peace:)

February 2008
God’s nightgown!! Here it is nearly the end of February 08 and I
have, again, been reminded of my sloppy posting! So here goes
nothing and I do mean a whole lot of it!
As you may or may not be able to tell by my opening exclamation, I
have been reading “Gone With The Wind” by Margaret Mitchell,
published in 1936. Of course, alot of us have seen the movie. It was
the 2nd movie I ever cried at. (The first being “300 Spartans” back
in the early 60’s and, yes, there was sound!) Little did I realize,
but should have known, how much was left out of the movie and how
historically enlightening it has been. I’ve never looked at the
Civil War from the South’s perspective, and I realize it’s fiction,
but there is alot I have never considered. Of course, I do believe
slavery was barbaric and needed to go, but even as I write this I am
harkened to the similarity of the aftermath of that war and the war
in Iraq. So many mistakes made. It just goes to show no matter how
much things change, so much stays the same. Anyway, I’m finding the
book a good read and highly recommend it!
Not alot has been happening on the homefront and I’m thankful for
that! I’m still working as a lunch lady and feel more and more like
an important cog in the wheel! Sometimes I’m even asked what to do!!
Husband is all done hunting, but I understand there is alot of work
that needs to be done on the “grounds” at the lodge. The ice storm
last year really did a number on trees and such and will require
hours upon hours of weekend visits to clean up! The youngest son
started a new job the 1st of February and seems to be very happy
with that. What more can a mother ask for?!! The eldest is still
working hard and will be celebrating a birthday very soon!! What
fun!!!!!
Of course, I’m keeping my finger on the pulse of politics and the
economy! I even participated in the Iowa Caucus in January. That was
fun! So far so good on the political front. Obviously, the economy
causes me concern. The interest earned on my money market account
has dropped a nice amount from Jan to Feb. I don’t even want to know
how the 401K is doing since I have a large portion in stable assets
and I fear that is taking a hefty hit too! Thank goodness my “toy
boy” has a while til retirement….
I am most anxious for spring……only I’m sure that won’t last when I
go outside and see where the little bastard bunnys have eaten the
tops off of my 70 tulips I planted last fall or when the “whole in
the wall” bar behind us opens it’s beer garden again and I’ll be
subjected to their “no outdoor music” all summer into fall again! Oh
well…..at least I won’t have to wear a coat! Peace:)

December 2007
Waiting for the boys to come home again from another hunting
weekend. Although I love to see them go, I sure don’t love the 2
days worth of laundry when they get back. Made beef stew for supper,
so will heat that up when they finally arrive.
Had another busy weekend. Made some things for the gals at work and
a few others. Got my hair cut, colored and eyebrows waxed so I’m
ready for the holidays! Nephew came over last night while the
“rents” went to a Christmas party. Gifts are all wrapped, cards have
been sent, almost done with the grocery shopping. I guess it paid
off big time to start early this year. Like the weekend after
Halloween! I work tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday. Have a Christmas
concert to go to Tuesday evening and a family Christmas on Friday
evening.
Then a few days to prepare for the main events! Don’t blink cuz it
will all be over too soon! My eldest is going to Atlanta tomorrow
til Thursday for work. That should be a nice break for him from all
this cold crap! Thankfully the weather looks good til next weekend.
Well, best get something done. No time to waste! Happy Holidays!
Peace:)

You may have noticed some one other than myself wrote last time.
Yes! That is my new favorite video! I think it’s sooo cool! And
yes…my eldest son also plays the drums. But I have 2 favorite sons!
The youngest wrote the blog and is always like a little girl about
his older brother. But I love them both equally…….
Thank goodness, it’s a hunting weekend! Husband, youngest son, and
my nephew went down to the “lodge” late this afternoon. I plan to do
my Christmas cards, wrap my presents, and maybe get out of my pj’s
this weekend. After that helluva snow storm yesterday, I’m not going
anywhere this weekend!!! I worked yesterday and had to drive home in
that mess. It was awful!! And then when I got to work this morning,
we were told our boss fell in her driveway and shattered her wrist.
So this old brittle gal is going to be very careful out there! I’m
working 3 to 4 days a week now. I really like it! I’ve been trained
for the salad bar and that is alot of fun! Busy! Busy! The girls are
all really nice and there are no prima donnas. Everyone pitches in.
Well, best get started on my HO!HO!HO!ing! Be careful out there!
Peace:)

My son Jeffrey showed me this video. I though it was going to be
stupid untill I saw some one drumming in it. The drumming reminded
me of my favorite son, Jeremy, so I now love this video. You should
watch it too.
Good huh?

Awesome Autumn!

Saturday
13 October 2007
Here it is…..my favorite time of year! Clean, crisp
air…..beautiful fall foliage…..hunting season begins!!! Not to
mention someone’s 31st wedding anniversary and soon a 55th
birthday! My “toy boy” turned 50 this summer and has had to under
go all those tests one has to take at that benchmark in life. He
had his bone scan and just got finished with the ominous
colonoscopy. Was happy he passed that with flying colors! I
had some minor surgury at Iowa City in late September but that’s
all behind us now. Wednesday morning husband and I let out a
collective sigh, happy all that medical crap is over!!! Now on to
the fun things like my birthday and hunting season!
The nephew is back in school and a 6th grader. He’s pulling all
A’s! Can’t do better than that! His voice is starting to change
and it’s a hoot! We had a good summer. Swimming 2 to 3 times a
week. Writing, reading, painting, going to Wally World. I don’t
know how many more summers he’ll want to come to Nan’s, but we do
have fun! I’ve been preparing myself, though. I applied for a
job as a lunch lady at the schools. I’m going to be a temporary
part-timer! Hours are 10 to 1. That way I’ll be here after school
and be off when there is no school, so he can still come over.
Today was tree and brush day in town. Husband and I trimmed
Thursday and Friday night and this morning. We hauled 3 loads in
the big trailor! I’m one pooped ole woman! But everything looks
alot better now.
I went Wednesday morning to a new hairdresser and got my hair
cut, too. I like it but it’s more work than I’m used to. But it
need to be shorter for my new job. Wasn’t to keen on wearing a
hairnet. I haven’t worked yet this year. My boss wanted to wait
til all my medical shit was done. I tried to call her this last
week, but she was on vacation. Hopefully, I’ll start working next
week. I’m anxious to get this show on the road!
In 3 more weeks, I’ll be starting my Christmas decorating. I
have the “big one” this Christmas Eve so want to be ready for that.
I’m also having Thanksgiving here this year. We’re gonna cook the
turkeys on the grill so that will help alot! Like I said I love
this time of year!
Gonna sign off for now….the crybaby Red Sox are playing
the cheating Indians for the ALCS, so gotta boo them both….send bad
vibes and all that stuff…told the nephew if the Rockies don’t win
the NLCS, I’m done with baseball for the year. Go Yankees!!! Happy
Fall! Peace:)

Nice stuff Nan!!!! I’m glad all that medical stuff is over too!!!
When you gonna list more stuff on ebay? How come you didn’t talk
about all the splendid gifts you and Dad got from your lovely
children. Hahaha. Can’t wait to read more later.

30 May 2007
Here it is almost the end of May. School has been out almost 1 week
now. The nephew and I have been having a great summer vacation so
far. Yesterday we watched “Night at the Museum” which is a fun
movie. We took a “field trip” to the post office to mail the 354
newsletters I processed over the weekend. We went for our walk this
morning and I made my hair appointment on the way home. How
convenient! I had an idea for a summertime activity and the boy has
just loved it! We are each writing a book. He sits most of his
down time now with my laptop and writes and writes and writes. I
use the desk top and we are having a heyday! Tomorrow we’re going
on a field trip to WalMart. (He thinks ”field trip” is goofy, but
it puts a more positive spin on a humdrum activity) We are going to
get a hummingbird feeder. I was almost attacked by one on the back
deck over the weekend. So I wanna give them what they’re looking
for.
Now let me see…..what else has been going on…… For those of you who
don’t know, I was shot down at the planning and zoning meeting a
week ago. Voted in favor of the out door patio 5-0. There were
only the business owners and myself there to plead our
cases. Pretty much a waste of time, but I wanted them to know how
I felt. The permit will be issued on an annual basis, though. “Too
may complaints, and no renewal.” So I guess it wasn’t a complete
loss.
Holy Cow! It is still raining out and it’s almost 8:00! I can see
my rain guage has over an inch it! Everything is so verdant! I
love this time of year. I planted an American Cranberry Highbush
verbernium in the space where we took out the 2 Korean lilacs on the
19th and you couldn’t have asked for more ideal weather for a
plant. My peonies are pretty played out, but the siberian iris, day
lillies and puple coneflowers are ready to take off with the
impending hot weather.
Well, the coffee pot must be readied for tomorrow’s brew and I’m
ready to call it a day. Enjoy the rest of May! Talk at ya later!
Peace:)

Saturday May 19, 2007
Went out to visit the brother in law and his lovely wife and
daughter last evening, and I got all kinds of grief for not blogging
recently! Who knew anyone cared so much? I must say I’m flattered
and will be more diligent about updates from now on.
Now let me see…..what interesting things have I been up to….I’ve
been doing alot of gardening. Got all my annuals potted up, some
transplanting done, and I’m back to mowing 3 days a week now. I got
a new hydrangea over Mother’s Day weekend and I just love
it! Husband built me a butterfly house and now I have the makings
of a butterfly garden. Caution: Butterfly Crossing at Nan’s nook!
This is clean up weekend here in town and tonight Husband and I cut
back my over grown and ice damaged lilac bush. We also cut off 2
Korean lilacs that starting dying last year and looked terrible this
year. Looks awful bare, but I already know what’s going in their
place. In time, it will be back to the old lovely “Green
Cathedral”.
On the political front, I did get the opportunity to see Joe Biden
up at the Historical Society in town. He’s very intelligent and
knows so much about foreign and domestic affairs. Has a great plan
for Iraq, that does not include withdrawl. I don’t believe he’s got
a chance in hell, but I think he’d make an excellent president. I’m
not terribly enthused about Hillary. Not cuz she’s a woman, but I’m
tired of Bush, Clinton, Clinton, Bush, Bush, and now Clinton….Obama
wouldn’t be bad either. I’m so tired of “he doesn’t have enough
experience” blah, blah, blah. Look what all kinds of ”experience”
has gotten us into. Hello!!?!! Needless to say, I wouldn’t
consider anyone “across the aisle” at this time. They all pretty
much scare me.
May 21st I’ll be celebrating my 19th anniversary of sobriety. Who
knew?!! I wouldn’t have bet 1 red cent on that! My nephew will be
out of school for the summer on Thursday. He recieved 3 awards at
school on Friday. He’s got a mind like a steel trap. I’m so very
proud of him. Haven’t listed anything on ebay for quite some time.
Need to get going on that again. But it’s almost addictive. I
loved that last 5 minutes of bidding……big money!big money!
Sunday May 20, 2007
I’m just pooped!! As I said yesterday, it is Clean-Up Days here
in town and it just dawned on me this morning I have all kinds of
crap in my garage that needed to go. Husband and I loaded up the
back of the truck and hauled up load #1. I swept and vacuumed out
my garage and now it looks so nice and neat. It’s amazing what one
can accumulate in just 5 short years. Of course, half the junk
pitched was crap the old man put in there. We hauled up all the
brush, and husband found another truck load from his garage and
surrounding area and we hauled up load #2. And the old man still
lives and breathes after that!! Who knew?!!
I just want to give a “shout out” to my niece over in the
windy city! We’re thinking of her and are so excited about her
endeavor! Our other niece did an awesome job on tv too! Who knew?!
I’m not looking too forward to Tuesday night. I have to go to a
zoning meeting at 5:00. Our local bar wants to add an outdoor patio
area. I only have a few objections…… the noise, the noise, and, oh
yes, the noise! We’ve all gotten along just fine these last 30
years. They say no outdoor sound system……..yet……what or how will
they wanna expand next year? Well, the ole broom is washed and
gassed and will be ready to transport this ole witch! But how I
dread confrontations with a passion!! Will keep you posted on my
mission to preserve neighborhood tranquility.
Well, Masterpiece Theatre is starting in 20 minutes. Must get
the coffee ready and myself settled in. Will talk at ya soon!
Peace:)

Earth Day 2007
Posted on
Sunday 22
April 2007
I
remember the 1st Earth Day in 1970. I was graduating from high
school that year. I bought an ”Earth Day” t-shirt and kept it on a
hanger for display until December 23rd, 2001. April 22nd is also
baby sister’s birthday. She is 45. I’m almost 10 years older and
of course 10 years wiser. But we won’t tell her that……
The bridal shower came and went and I think it was another good
one. It was fun to see everyone again. I’ve been ”hired” to make
the mints for the wedding now. That’s a somewhat daunting task, but
I can handle it. I must say the day got off to a bad start,
though. I had finished washing up the breakfast dishes and decided
it would be a good time to clean the bird cage, too. I went and
uncovered Birdie and there she was lying on her side between her
food tray and the cage. Her little black eye was staring up at me.
“Birdie” I said in surprise and then realized she was deader than a
door nail!! Ahhhh!!!!! I was just shocked! I semi-covered her
back up in haste and ran to call the husband. “Did you flush her
down the toilet?” he asked. I don’t think so!!!!! Obviously, he
was not going to be any help. So, I regrouped and covered her up
better to transport the corpse out to the deck. I then called my
baby and told him of his
bird’s demise. He came and took the body and cage and left. Don’t
ask…. don’t tell…….Thank goodness that was over! Fortunately, the
rest of the day went off with out a hitch.
It’s going to be an interesting week. Husband may go on “the road”
Tuesday thru Thursday to make calls on customers. Oh Boo Hoo!
Friday we cook hog for the Open House on Saturday. Saturday the
husband is going to the Lodge to turkey hunt for the weekend….Boo
Hoo, again! Don’t know how I will ever bear up!
Just an Earth Day reminder: Recycle, recycle, recycle…..cans, junk
mail, newspapers, plastic containers, milk cartons, cereal boxes,
cake mix boxes, etc. I rinse everything out so it doesn’t smell.
You can use 2 of those plastic bins per household. You pay for it
on your water bill, you might as well take advantage of it. I have
just about all of our light bulbs changed out to the energy saver
ones. They’re a little pricey at first, but I’m still using some I
got in 2001! Nothing is too small to make a difference! Peace:)

Spring has Sprung!
Posted on
Monday 2
April 2007
Where did March go?! I couldn’t believe everything that has gone on
since my last blog. The energy doctor came and went. I got “big
money” on Ebay with the item brother-in-law found! Was very pleased
about that! The dishwasher is up and running again. We had a great
birthday party for my now 30 year old son. I was asked how it feels
to be the mother of a 30 year old. The answer is ”no different”.
My boys will always be my babies. We got the husband’s bathroom
painted and it looks great! I’m having fun decorating it now.
I’ve been doing good with my healthier lifestyle. Walk everyday on
the treadmill. Kicked it up a few notches even. Husband and I like
to walk when he gets home from work too. And the yard work is not
far off. We noticed on our walk tonight several people had mowed
already. We’re not quite there yet and with this stupid cold snap
coming I’m hoping I don’t lose alot of flowers that have come up.
We have a duck couple hanging around. They like to swim in our
pond. I’m trying to include a picture of them, but don’t know if I
can. Anyway, I feel like Tony Soprano with his ducks. I’ve also
been baking bread. Our friend gave me a real simple bread recipe
and husband likes it for his lunches.
And I’m getting
ready for my nephew’s bride-to-be shower on the 19th of this month.
Invites are going out tomorrow. That should be fun! So it’s busy,
busy, busy! Easter is this Sunday and we’re going to my baby
sister’s house. I understand brother-in-law and his lovely wife
will be in Washington, DC helping with the White House Easter Egg
Roll again this year.
Is that cool or what!!!! Well,
the “little man” has just come to bed with his bowl full of Easter
Cakes and cookies so I guess that means “goodnight”. Will talk at
ya later! Peace:)

This is the lovely wife…….you forgot to add the niece ( Katie). Oh
well, she won’t even know. Am not quite ready for the trip yet, but
I am sure that GW and Laura know that we are coming. She will
probably have us over for supper on Easter Sunday after our plane
arrives in DC. Bet that she will whip up a batch of her delish
chocolate chip cookies also. I see so far that the weather is
supposed to be nice on monday, let’s hope so!! Otherwise the eggs
will get nasty. Will try and pick u up something while there………

March 2007
It may come as a big surprise to some of you, but I am not perfect.
Last night I had a large bowl of ice cream and I did not walk
today. I did find an extra 1/2″ on the end of my tape measure
though. So I feel a slip now and then is ok. Tomorrow is my first
born’s 30th birthday and I do intend to partake in all the birthday
“festivus”! (That means 30 years ago tonight I was in labor…….all
night long.) Anyway, I’m sticking with this new routine. I’ve been
surprised at how much more energy I have. I’ve even decided to paint
our den while on spring break.
The Energy Doctor called late yesterday afternoon and they are
coming Tuesday morning. I dread having strange “mens” tromping
around the house. They also wrap the water heater and put this
material in the plug-ins, too. They told the husband it just takes
a few hours. But they’ll still be crowding my groove. Next I gotta
call the Maytag repair man. The less than 5 year old dishwasher
won’t turn on. Bummer!
The brother-in-law found a real treasure for me to put on ebay
today. I’m so excited! Big Money!Big Money! I’m waiting til
Thursday to list it, though. I leave it up for 5 days and that
gives buyers all weekend to bid.
Geez….It’s 8:20 p.m. already! I hate this daylight savings
time! It’s not nice to fool Mother Nature! In my opinion, it just
gives the undesirables more time to run around. Oh well…….will talk
at ya later! Peace:)

7 March 2007
It’s been almost 5 nights now without the ice cream. Just finished
a delicious, juicy orange! Yum! I’ve walked 1.75 miles (that’s
what I do in 30 minutes) on the treadmill everyday now since
Sunday. I raise the treadmill a little at a time to intensify the
walk. I eat two more servings of fruit a day. Yes, yes I am
wonderful……and my husband is ready to kill me! It seems like my
healthier life style spills over on him whether he likes it or not.
I make his sandwich with wheat bread. I give him Wheat Thin chips
with 40% less fat. I tuck a banana in his lunch sack. I serve him
oatmeal and wheat toast at breakfast. And Monday night I served him
my delicious southwestern bean soup for supper. I thought the bowl
was going to go on the wall. ”There’s no meat in this, is there?”
was his only comment……all night! So last night I made the big
baby a ribeye with french fries and garlic toast. Heart attack on a
plate. But tonight it was back to baked chicken breast (free range)
and green beans. I figure I’ll pacify him a few times a week
til he’s begging for nothing but the good stuff! It’s called child
psychology.
I
haven’t sold anymore on Ebay. Can’t find anything else that I can
part with. I do have 2 positive feedbacks now. I’m anxious for
garage sales again. I’ll make some one else’s junk my gold mine!
Well, that’s all I got for now. Next time I’ll let you know if that
damn tape measure has more numbers at the end of it! Peace:)

Rude Awakening!
Posted on
Saturday 3
March 2007
I’ve always loved IPTV! I’ve learned so much from their
documentarys, how-to shows, Masterpiece Theatre, etc. and
that is why I am a member. Today is the beginning day of Festival
(their membership drive) and they have lots of interesting
specials. The husband tuned in this afternoon and a special was on
about being healthier. This doctor was carrying around 2 1/2 lbs.
of chicken fat showing the audience. He then proceeded to tell the
audience the woman’s ideal waist size should be 32 inches at the
billy button. (a man’s is 35″) I promptly got out the tape measure
and let’s just say if I was a man I would be in good shape! And
I’ve been doing 170 sit ups 4-5 days a week! But it’s what you eat
too. Of course, I know that and I don’t eat too bad….just that bowl
of ice cream every night. And maybe the 2 bowls of Kashi cereal for
afternoon snacks. And then there’s the half n half in my
coffee. The doctor just said to eat lots of fruits and vegetables,
stay away from processed foods, walk 30 minutes everyday and
automate. That means eating pretty much the same things all the
time. It’s no wonder the “blimp” has been in such a funk
lately. Carrying around this spare tire has made me lazy and
depressed. Spring is right around the corner and so are the shorts.
So the orange roughy is out of the freezer and in the fridge for
tomorrow nights supper. I haven’t even had my ice cream tonight.
But I do have the tape measurer still out. Just a lttle reminder of
why my stomach is growling…….Peace:)

14 February 2007
First, I’d like to pay homage to the young law enforcement officer,
Sean Wissink, who died in an auto accident this past weekend. I
heard about the accident early Saturday morning, but they weren’t
giving any information. I later heard the name and didn’t give it
much thought then, either. Sunday evening when I was checking my
e-mail, I had one from an old friend living in Georgia. It was from
that I learned Wissink was the son of our old friend Deb Alexander
and her husband Harold Wissink. How awful! One just never knows…..
I
am really
not happy, either, about the dog house contest outcome! I don’t
even remember seeing Commuity Choice’s dog house. They had a booth
down at the show and must have stuffed the ballot box! Ankeny
Appraisal’s was the best for sure! The Home and Garden Show itself
was a real bust, too! The only thing I saw that I liked was a
picture of a pergola roof from a magazine dated 2005!!! Come on!
The gardens were a joke and how many varieties of insulation does
one have to be subjected to?! But it was nice to go some where once
with the husband. He enjoys getting the ole gal out every now and
again. We even went down to the lodge Sunday morning. Brother in
law has done a really nice job finishing off the inside. We went
for a walk and didn’t see any wildlife. On the trip down, though,
we saw bald eagles in a tree, deer and several turkeys. I took a few
pictures, too. Geez, I left home Saturday and Sunday!
I
made my first sale on e-Bay today!!!! This is great! I listed last
week and had checked on it and checked on it and ”0″ bids. Then
tonight when I checked my e-mail there it was! My first PayPal
deposit! I was so excited. Now, I’m combing all cupboards looking
for more! I’m hooked!!
Hope everyone had a good Valentine’s Day. I know I did. I got
a package of gummi savers and a mini “massage on the go”! It’s
pleasantly powerful with cushy gel heads! Who could ask for more!
That husband of mine…..
Well, it’s time for my ice cream and then off to slumberland.
Remember: Hug your loved ones….you never know……Peace:)

Nan……what did you sell on e-bay??? Something of the husbands???
Sounds like you had a great Valentine’s Day…..your man is always
good to you!!!

Oh my gosh, Nan! I kind of forgot about this wonderful Christmas
present your adorable son gave you. I checked it out before you even
got it and haven’t been back. My adorable son reminded me of it.
I’ve sure been out of the loop. Didn’t know you had cut our hair.
I’ll bet it’s cute! I’ll have to stop over and check it out! I
didn’t read my emails to know about the dog house until the Monday
after the H&G show. Darn it! I didn’t even see the dog house
competition, sorry! I, of course, know any dog house built by my
brother would be the best!! Can’t believe it didn’t win! Your
husband’s favorite sister Oh,

Hair-Raising Experience!

February 2007
On Thursday, February 1st, after a sleepness night, I went to my
hair dresser for my scheduled appointment. She cut it. I hated
it. I walked/ran home as fast as I could without,
hopefully, drawing too much attention. It was straight to the
shower in desperation that maybe I could do something with it. When
my youngest saw me afterwards, his first comment was: “Luke…..I am
your father”. Just as I suspected…the infamous “Helmet Hair”!
Suffice it to say, whatever small amount of self-esteem I might have
had, promptly went down the shitter! My hair has a tendancy to go
into shock mode when I do something different to it and it was in
overdrive this time. So…….needless to say I’ve not been a happy
camper. I’ve tried to think about the positives:
1. It’s bitter cold out so I can get away wearing a hat.
2. I don’t go out much, especially in the winter, so I’ve got some
time for it to grow.
3. I’m glad I did it now for the afore listed reasons. (Just think
if I had to go out and mow so everyone on Cherry Street could see
the Helmet Hair!)
And that, my friends, are all the positives I can list. We’re
supposed to go to the Home and Garden Show this weekend, but I’ve
already told my brother-in-law I don’t think I can go. It’s going
to be hard to see things with a sack over my head!
Speaking of the Home and Garden Show, my father-in-law, his
brother-in-law and my husband built a small dog house modeled after
the American Gothic house. It’s for a contest and will be on
display at the show. By purchasing a raffle ticket you can vote
for it as your favorite! The money is for the Animal Rescue
League. So if you happen to make it down there, be sure and look it
up!
And now back to me……I want to thank all of you kind folks out there
that took time to write in and give me feedback. All I ask now is
if you do go to the Home and Garden Show and see a woman walking
around with a sack on her head, be kind. See you in about 6
months! Peace:)

Oh Nan……..I am sure that your hair looks just fine! I will have to
get up to Cherry Street so that I can see what a gorgeous gal you
are now (not that you weren’t before)!
2.
Actually I have been miss quoted. My first comment was, “You under
estimate the power of the dark side.”
3.
Peggie, I’m sure your hair looks great! I can’t wait to see it!! I
love the site too. I always look forward to reading it when I’m at
school so I can stay updated on what’s going on!

I’ve been wanting to get my hair cut off….. short! What do you
think? Would I look like this pea head on this big body? Do you
think it’s one step before the grave? I have all these demons in my
head with their pros and cons. (Or maybe that’s just because I’m
crazy!) So I’m asking your opinion. (No, not about me being
crazy!) Please help! I’ll be waiting……………..peace:)

I
say go for it. It’ll grow back if you don’t like it!
2.
Cut your hair….it may be the step to your authentic self.

3.
Hum……I just don’t know what to tell you. I think that it looks good
that length or a little shorter, but go for broke and go all the
way. It will grow back! What does the hubby think, or does it
matter?????? You know, his hair always looks sharp!
4.
I
agree with Katie, I say go for it! I have always liked you with
shorter hair. You will be beautiful no matter what! love you…

January 2007
All in all, it hasn’t been a bad month so far. Weather has
cooperated and time seems to slow down, somewhat, after the busy
holidays. I think I shall try to appreciate the month from now on.
Spring will be here before we know it and then the year starts to
fly by. The “boys” went to the Pheasant Fest Friday night and to
the farm today. That was nice. I put away the rest of the winter
decor and reconciled our checking account. I hadn’t done that for
years. Yes, years. I know generally how much money we have, but
after reconciling the historical society’s account, I thought Geez,
I should do our own. I found I was off a couple hundred dollars to
our advantage! But I’ll wait til February’s statement just to be
sure.
I
made some really good soup this week. Lentil soup. I’ve never had
lentils before in all my 54 years. Bryan and I were watching the
food channel Tuesday night and we got a recipe from that. Do you
know lentils are just below the soybean for protein. They’ve been
eating them for over 4000 years. I thought it came out really good,
and I told my sister about it. I sent some home with her Friday
night, but from the expression on her face when she looked at it, I
figured the soup was going in the trash. Well, yesterday afternoon
little sister called to tell me how good it was and she would pay
for the ingredients to make more! Well, imagine my delight. Yes,
little sister, we shall have lentil soup coming out of our ears!!!!
Well, I’ll sign off for now. Masterpiece Theatre is starting and
Jane Eyre is on. Go Patriots!! Peace:)

January 2007
Today was clean up day. Paper work. I had done my books and filing
away papers when I decided, with tax time right around the corner,
it was time to make room for the new and purge the old. All Bryan
has to do now is start the fire pit and burn, baby, burn!
Yesterday, Bryan staightend up the utility room (he can shuffle shit
better than any one I know) and changed the furnace filter so that’s
ready for the furnace check tomorrow. We got the Christmas tree
boxes taped up and put up in the loft for another year. Even DAV
called and they’re coming Tuesday to get old dishes, clothing and
magazines. I’m pleased to say the New England Patriots “cleaned up”
the San Diego Chargers, too!! So what I thought was going to be a
do nothing weekend, turned into quite a productive one. I
feel sooooo Martha! ………..Peace:)

Tea Time!

I’m choking down my 3rd cup of green tea. I read you need to
drink 4 cups a day to receive the health benefits from it. Ugh! Oh
well…practice makes perfect! I remember (like yesterday) my first
can of beer. Before you know it, I could down em like the best of
em! This health kick is not near as much fun though! I visited my
youngest’s blog today and had a good laugh. Seems the
little ”whipper snapper” is upset with his mommy!!! Maybe he
shouldn’t be doing those naughty things and he wouldn’t be blogged
about!! All’s fair in the “blogasphere” my dear! Thanks again,
sweetie, for the Christmas present!! I hope everyone is glued to
their tv tonight to hear what our president is proposing we do now
with this mess he and his administration created in Iraq. At a cost
of over $250,000,000 a day….(yes, $250 million!) it should be of
interest to every tax paying citizen… and their children!
hmmmmm…. Time for another cup…….Peace:)

Nan……I will be watching the Cyclones B.Ball game as much as I can
tonite. I am sure that George will interfere with my game though!
Darn him…..Go Cyclones!!!
2.
Aunt Peggy, I agree with you that trying to drink four cups of green
tea can be tough. The only tea I really like to drink is sweet tea.
Are you still taking your fish oil pills? Many science journals I
read say that fish oil pills (omega 3 FA’s) are one of the best
things to take.

I
have been hesitant to write anything regarding politics, since
family members I genuinely care about are on the opposite side of
the aisle. But in lieu of the historical events that have recently
transpired, I would feel remiss it I didn’t say anything. On
Thursday, January 4th, 2007, the first woman Speaker of the
House, Nancy Pelosi, was elected. Yahoo! Not only a woman, but a
Democrat! And immediately following, she swore in the Democratic
majority House of Representatives. Across the way, Vice President
Cheney swore in the Democratic majority Senate. Yahoo, again! I
can’t help but feel optomistic. OK. That’s enough politics. Just
wanted to stick my toe in the water or foot in my mouth. On the
homefront, I understand hunting season is over at least for a
while. Bummer! But I think weekends could be spent putting the
final touches on the Lodge, so there might be some hope. As I
stated before, I’m feeling optomistic!Peace:)

Good Bye Holidays!

I
can officially say “goodbye” to the holiday season of 2006-07!
Matthew goes back to school tomorrow. I think I have washed the
last dish with anything left from the holidays. And I have changed
the wallpaper on the computer from a Christmas tree to kites
flying. I’m ready to move on! It was my intention to start the new
year with a peaceful, positive outlook. At 1:23 am New Years
Day that all went down the ”crapper”! It seems my youngest had done
something really stupid and was paying the price. Sick with worry
and mad as hell, naturally, sleep was out of the question. So
the very first day was a haze at best. Thank goodness I’ve calmed
down and it’s only the end of the 3rd day of the year. I don’t think
I’ve spent too much negative energy. I told the youngest “to err is
human; use it as an opportuity to learn.” Enough said. Well…. I
said alot more than that, but those were my last words. So now that
I’ve picked myself up, brushed myself off, I’ll start all over
again. Wish me luck! Peace:)

Nearly New Year

30 December 2006
Only one more day of 2006. I keep thinking I should make some
resolutions, but been there done that. It’s always stuff I know I
should be doing but don’t. So forget about it! I’m already
dreading the new year, since my husband is turning 50 in July and of
course he thinks he need a party! He’s so vain! Nobody Cares! And
he’s getting too old for that crap! I’d rather he went on
a fishing trip! (hint!hint!) But his brother might get sick
again. Yes. Big Brother is ill, so the hunting trip was
cancelled. Bummer! Anyway, I have a few months to work on my plot
or his birthday plans I should say. And one of my resolutions would
be not to worry about things. Although, I’ve been searching the
internet for Christmas trees for next year. I have the husband’s
family next year. Awesome! I thought it might be nice if I shared
my oyster stew recipe. I’ve been making it on New Years Eve for
years and it’s easy and good! So here it is:
Oyster Stew
2
quarts whole milk
1
stick unsalted butter
2
t. soy sauce
1
t. salt
2
pints oysters with liquid
Put all ingredients except oysters into Crock Pot. Cover and cook
on high 1 1/2 hours. Stir well. Add oysters, cover and cook on low
2-4 hrs. Serve with oyster crackers and freshly ground pepper.
Enjoy!
Now wasn’t that simple! I just have the broth with lots of
crackers. Don’t care for the oysters. Well, that’s all I’m gonna
share for now. Hope you all enjoy the last day of the year. Will
talk at ya later! Peace:)

Working Vacations

28 December 2006
Why is it when we get time off we never get to do the things we
would really like to be doing? My week “off” has been spent
cleaning, washing, grocery shopping, de-decorating, and did I mention
cleaning? I did finally get something done with the hair, but other
than that it’s been the same-o-same-o. My day began this morning at
1:44 to let out the whining old dog. Would you believe people were
still at the Clipper heading home! Go Home Losers! Then it was
back up at 5:45 to get the the other whining old dog ready for
another day. An early run to the store was next to ensure I got
my $10.99@ lb. oysters for the traditional New Years Eve oyster
stew. I got 2 lbs. Ugh! $121.00 later and it was back home.
I put the groceries away, straightened up the basement and started a
load of wash, hauled out the garbage container and then it was time
to tear down the rest of the Christmas decorations. I can’t believe
how much “stuff” I have accumulated in just 5 years! And I
purposely didn’t put it all out! But now that’s all done, and I’m
sitting here in bed with Law and Order SVU on and back in business.
My next project is starting up my e-bay account. I’ve been combing
the cupboards and closets for things I could sell. Found a few
things to start with. Younger son is supposed to be helping me with
it, but I think I’ve been blown off. Was hoping the husband would
go hunting this weekend but will have to see what the weather does.
Anyway, I intend to enjoy the rest of my vacation. The new year
will be here before you know it, and it will start all over again!
Peace:)

every time you tell me that you don’t want to start on it till after

have been missed. I got you this for a fun gift to keep in touch
with the outside world and let people know how cool you are. Not to
bash the bestower of this gift with reasons that I am not even

Hi, this is the admin of nansnook.net. I am helping my mother get
her first blog going. I am giving it to her for christmas so no one
tell her if you find this before. Keep it a surprise. Anyway, I’m
kind of nervous of her site receiving more visits than mine cause
she will have lots of good content. Well anyway here is a pic of
her. Leave her a comment (which I will most likely have to approve)
telling her how excited you are to see what she is going to put on
it.
Click on the link below and scroll down to the bottom of the
screen to leave her a comment. Just type in your first name and
email address and leave the comment. It won’t show up right away
but keep checking back and it should be there. Don’t forget to save
this site to your favorites and check it out every once in a while
to see what Nan has to say:)

Thanks!

Paula and I got a call from Jeff letting us know that he had “got
his mom a website for Christmas” so we are both taking time out from
our (I mean her) busy schedule to send you a note.
Thanks for all that you do for our family. You allow us to go to
work each day (Paula will say that is a bad thing) as you care for
the “little man”.
Thanks again for everything. Enjoy your website…
Chris

Hello Nan -
Just checking on you and your website. You have added alot since
Christmas. I am going to print out your oyster stew receipe just in
case I want to make. Like you I only like the milk “stew” as well. I
am so glad it is Friday. Will be nice to have a couple of days off.
I got paid today after 5 weeks, yes it has been 5 weeks since we got
paid here at CCC but anyway that is another story but I did notice
on my pay stub that I have accrued already 2 and 1/2 days of PTO!!
Yea!! I would just love to take a day off but I know I can’t
yet…just wait and be patient because there is a lot of 2007 left.
Well going to close better get back to work from my lunch. Take care
and will talk soon…love, plw
